Simon Woodmore
A paramedic is swapping his ambulance for a bicycle as he trains for a five-day
cycling challenge. Simon Woodmore, aged 40, of Hemel Hempstead, will cycle 350 miles across France in May to raise money for Help for Heroes charity - supporting
wounded servicemen.
The father-of-two is part of London Ambulance Service's hazardous area response team (HART).
He said,"Having turned 40 I think I'm going through a mid-life crisis and I really wanted a challenge. Help for Heroes is such a worthwhile charity and I have lots of friends in the army, so it's important to me."
Simon will join 300 other cyclists in the ride, starting at Cherbourg, riding through the Normandy battlefields, and ending in Paris at the Eiffel Tower.
Simon, who has been with the Service for 19 years, added: "I've had a lot of support from my colleagues at the ambulance service and doing this has even helped me to stop smoking. I really want to achieve this. Thinking about the wounded servicemen and what they have gone
through really inspires me to push myself as hard as I can." Simon hopes to raise more than £2,000 for the charity.
