Gaynor keeps her cool

When baby Lucy Crow entered the world, she was unaware what her parents Chris and Ruth Crow were up against in the early hours of the morning.
On Friday, October 30, call handler Gaynor Wilson was halfway through her night shift in the Bedford emergency operations centre, when she took an unusual 999 call from a man who's wife was ready to give birth to their second child, in a utility room.
Bishops Stortford based station supervisor Mark Davy and his colleague, emergency medical technician Sarah Piggott made their way to the scene when they were updated that this was a breach delivery, and one foot was clearly visible.
Gaynor at this time was given instructions and trying to reassure Chris who was attempting to deliver his child, he said: "When I looked I could see one foot was already out and Gaynor kept me calm and told me how to deliver Lucy. I was so pleased that someone was there on the phone and could talk me through the childbirth."
Gaynor, Mark and Sarah made a special visit to the Crow family and to see how Lucy was getting on. Gaynor who has worked for the trust for 12 months said: "This was an extremely nerve wracking job to deal with. I am so pleased that the outcome was a successful one and it was great to meet up with the family and crew." Ruth and Lucy spent a night in an observation ward at Princess Alexandra hospital in Harlow before being sent home to meet up with a very excited 2 year old brother, Jonty.
