Young boy calls 999 for Dad

South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust (SECAmb) staff have praised a young boy who came to the rescue of his father who he found collapsed at his home in Tonbridge on Tuesday, 24 November 2009.

Jordan Marks, 10, who was today, (Thursday 18 February), presented with a certificate of recognition at Tunbridge Wells Ambulance Station, had to climb through an open window to get into his house after he arrived home from school before acting quickly to call 999 for his father, Mike Marks.

Jordan followed emergency call operator, Katie Whitcombe's instructions to the letter, while it was established that Mike's blood sugar levels had fallen dangerously low through diabetes.

Jordan's quick thinking meant his dad received the correct care and attention before paramedic Andrew Wood arrived and was able to treat him at the scene and return his blood sugar to a safe level.
Jordan was reunited with Andrew and met call taker Katie for the first time face-to-face at the ambulance station.
Jordan enjoyed a guided tour of an ambulance and also received a football and signed photos kindly donated by his beloved Chelsea FC.

Andrew was keen to see Jordan recognised for his actions and said: "There's no doubt that Jordan helped save his Dad's life. He was very brave and deserves a big well done for acting so quickly."
SECAmb call operator Katie Whitcombe said: "I was extremely impressed by how calm Jordon was on this call. He showed a maturity above his years and followed every instruction I gave him.

"He was calm throughout the call - even though he knew something serious was happening. He gave me clear answers to my questions and his actions had a positive impact on his dad's recovery.

Mike said: "I'm so glad Jordan arrived home when he did and was able to help me. Myself and my wife, Sheree, are very proud of him and the fact that he didn't hesitate to call 999 and follow all the instructions until Andrew arrived."
