The Running Paramedic steps into the ring with World heavyweight champion David Haye
Wednesday, 18 August, 2010
Stafford's own running paramedic Ray Edensor who has raised well over a quarter of a million pounds for seriously and terminally ill children, making there dreams come true. Was treated to a big surprise,Ray who has been an air ambulance paramedic for the air ambulance and an advanced paramedic for Staffordshire/West Midlands Ambulance Service for more that 28 years, decided to raise the money after attending a series of traumatic jobs on the ambulance service.
2001 Ray set up a five year commitment to help the charity dreams come true by running ultra marathons, which included running from Eiffel tower to Blackpool tower, running the London marathon 26 times in 26 days, all with a 30lbs rucksack and in a ambulance uniform. To mark the end of his five years commitment he ran the Stafford half marathon 25 times in 25 days in an airtight decontamination suit.
On Saturday 26th June 2010, the shoe was on the other foot, the BBC1 programme "Tonight's The Night" with John Barryman decided that it was about time someone should give Ray his dream, to train hard and spar with the World Heavyweight Boxing champion of the world David Haye.
Ray said "it was a total surprise to me, I was told by the charity that they wanted to take some pictures of me on the treadmill running machine to promote the charity, I went down to London, to a posh gym in the West end and I was met by a photographer, the next thing I was running on the machine looking into a monitor with John Barryman talking to me, and right behind me was the world champ David Haye. It was surreal.
He took me to his secret location gym where he trains for his world title fights, the whole day was fantastic and David Haye is a real life gentleman who hits really hard"
What I can't believe, is that my wife, family, friends have been planning this with the producer of the show for three months. without me knowing a thing
The show will be shown on primetime tv
