Phil Milligan to join EMAS this December

"I'm pleased to announce that we have successfully appointed a new Chief Executive to lead our Trust. Phil Milligan will join us on 1 December - marking a positive step forward for our organisation and the care we provide to local people," said Chairman Jon Towler today.

For the past year Phil has been Director of Performance and Provider Development at NHS West Midlands and prior to that has performed at a Director level at several acute hospitals including Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, Good Hope Hospital NHS Trust and Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. Phil started in the NHS in 1977 when he commenced nurse training and moved into general management in 1990.

"Phil has a strong track record of building a cohesive team, delivering change and ultimately improving patient care. It is these strengths that will help us improve what we do here at EMAS and enable us to deliver ambulance services and care that local people can have confidence in and be proud of," Jon added.

Phil, 53, from Sutton Coldfield is a family man with two grown-up children. Outside work Phil's interests include travel and good food, and as a former sub aqua diving instructor he enjoys recreational diving. Phil has been Chairman of the Institute of Healthcare Management and also a national charity for children with arm / hand deformities.

Speaking of his appointment Phil said: "I'm really excited about taking up this role and helping EMAS attain the high levels of performance and standards of clinical care that people deserve. I'm also looking forward to helping the organisation achieve Foundation Trust status - an important milestone for the Trust.

"EMAS has over 3,200 staff who are committed to providing the very best care. By enabling them to use and build upon their strengths and experience in the delivery or support of frontline services, I know we can make EMAS one of the best ambulance services in the country."
