The Charity has proudly celebrated the finale of the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal with BBC Radio Devon broadcasting live from the service's Steve Ford airbase, North Devon, last Friday.
Attending this special day of celebration were many people who had contributed to the Appeal, including Charity staff and volunteers, BBC Radio Devon presenters and staff as well as many fantastic fundraisers and donors who had not only achieved but exceeded the target of £600,000.
Helena Holt said, "We are absolutely delighted that the final sum raised is over £725,000. It's an amazing achievement and one we are extremely proud of. We would like to take the opportunity to thank BBC Radio Devon and all the listeners who have worked so hard over the past two years. We are humbled and overwhelmed at the support received."
She added, "Because of this Appeal, Devon will be taking delivery of a second owned helicopter in August 2013. There are many advantages to owning over leasing - including cost savings of £12,000 a month per aircraft. These savings mean that every single penny goes just that bit further and enables us to look at additional development of the service. This will include looking at flying longer hours and effectively means our patients benefit from even better care."
The Charity were also delighted to be joined by 'The South' (formerly known as 'The Beautiful South') who came along to the airbase and performed an acoustic set of some of their well known hits including 'Rotterdam (or Anywhere)' and 'Old Red Eyes is Back'.
