Falck buys part of UK’s largest independent ambulance provider
Tuesday, 09 July, 2013
Falck has acquired 45% of the shares in the UK independent ambulance provider Medical Services Ltd. (MSL), which is a key provider of patient transport services to the National Health Service (NHS) in the non emergency sector.
Falck has periodically reviewed the maturity of the UK provider base. However, it is only since legislative developments brought independent ambulance companies into the regulatory regime of the Care Quality Commission and since the establishment of Monitor, that Falck feels that the whole system approach to Ambulance provision will now support the high standards for which it is already known.
“We have looked at several providers and we think that MSL has the core disciplines already in place necessary to develop into a world class service. They have an experienced management team with a mix of NHS Ambulance Trust experience and commercial skills”, says Allan Søgaard Larsen, CEO of Falck.
“Falck’s experience in providing Emergency Ambulance services around the world, combined with strong commitment to workforce development and patient experience brings the depth of knowledge required to build a stronger business. This, coupled with 100 years of corporate social responsibility already inbuilt into Falck’s business approach, will provide added value at every level” says Joe Sheehan, Managing Director of Medical Services Limited.
