Roll out of heart-starting kit continues in Suffolk

Thursday, 01 August, 2013

The ambitious scheme to dispatch a hundred lifesaving defibrillators across the region continues with another dozen hitting Suffolk in the coming weeks.  The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) have pinpointed another 24 Co-operative stores throughout Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex on top of the 30 that are already in place.

An automated-external-defibrillator (AED) has been unveiled in Leiston, Saxmundam, Barham and Bramford this week with more scheduled throughout August.

An AED is a device that restarts the heart and saves lives if it can get to those who need it quickly. The defibrillators come as part of the Co-operative Society's 'Every Minute Counts Campaign'.

EEAST Regional Community Partnership Lead, Lorna Hayes said:

“This has been a very ambitious project and with so many of these devices available to the public throughout the region it is important that people, not only know where they are but how to use them as well.

“It is brilliant that the East of England Co-operative Society have set this great example and we hope that others will follow in the future.”

Community first responders will be attending the events to demonstrate the use of AEDs as well as emergency life-saving first aid.
