SP Services attends 10 Downing Street Reception in Support of New Government Cadet Force Scheme for State Schools

SP Services (UK) Ltd Managing Director, Steve Bray attended a reception at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday 18th June 2014, hosted by David Cameron in support of the Government’s commitment to set up 100 new cadet units by 2015. The new ‘Cadet Bursary Scheme’ will help schools cover the cost of this commitment, with new units given support with their running costs and access to a roster of trained instructors. The money will help fund activities including expeditions, sailing, leadership and first aid training.

The Prime Minister said:

‘Being a cadet is a fantastic opportunity that gives young people the skills you need to get on in life.’

The reception, which featured a marching band, was attended by approximately 80 cadets and supporters of the new scheme such as SP Services, who signed the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant, in October 2013 to further show our support of all the brave men and women, past, present and future that play such a vital role in defending the realm.

The covenant is a voluntary pledge of support from businesses and charities to the Armed Forces community and includes two key principles:

• No member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen
• In some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate, especially for the injured or bereaved

SP Services has published its covenant and will publicise its commitment to employees, customers and business partners. Their long relationship with the military dates back to its formation in 1989.
