Run For It! – a Family Affair
Friday, 22 August, 2014
Families with children are choosing to support Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) by signing up for Run For It!, the charity’s annual Fun Run on September 14th. The popular fun run is open to all ages and takes place at Thruxton Circuit, nr Andover.
This year, HIOWAA is calling upon entrants to get dressed up in ‘Emergency Services’ themed outfits and is expecting to see Policemen, Firemen, Paramedics, Nurses, Doctors and possibly the odd Super Hero. Each runner who takes part in fancy dress will be entered into a prize draw to find the best dressed entrant.
Participants are invited to run, jog or toddle around the circuit, raising money for the charity of their choice. The circuit is 3.793km (2.356 miles), or for those who want more of a challenge, there is an option to run a half marathon distance, which is six laps of the circuit.
Registration is still open and is £8 for over 18s; £5 for 5–18 year olds and is free for under 5s. The half marathon distance costs £10 to enter and is only open to those over the age of 15. All registration fees will go to HIOWAA, but sponsorship raised can be donated to any charity.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is called out to an average of two incidents involving children every week, both medical and trauma. Treating young babies to children of up to 16 years of age, the Air Ambulance can reach anywhere within Hampshire within 15 minutes and the Isle of Wight within 20 minutes.
