New Chair Announced For North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust
Thursday, 22 January, 2015
The NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) has today confirmed the appointment of Wyn Dignan as Chair of North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS).
The appointment comes following the departure of the Trust’s previous Chair, Mary Whyham in December 2014, who had served the maximum term permitted for an NHS Chair.
Wyn is an experienced Chair who has held the position of Chair of Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust since 2004. Prior to that, she served as Chair of North Manchester Primary Care Trust between 2000 and 2004 and has also held the positions of Non-Executive Director and Deputy Chair at North Manchester Healthcare NHS Trust.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Wyn’s professional career has been in the banking and finance sectors. Her ‘hands-on’ approach and passion for high quality care for the most vulnerable is well known across the local health economy.
Commenting on her new role, Wyn said: “I am delighted to join North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust. It’s an exciting time for the ambulance services across the country as they adapt to meet new challenges and new models of care. I look forward to working with the Board to build on the excellent work of my predecessor Mary Whyham and develop the service still further as a byword for excellence across the North West.”
NWAS Chief Executive, Bob Williams has welcomed the appointment and comments: “Wyn’s appointment comes during a time of great change for ambulance services with more emphasis being placed on a model of service which aims to reduce the number of patients we take to hospital and ensure patients receive the right care, at the right time and in the right place.
“The Board and I are looking forward to welcoming Wyn to the team and working with her to achieve our future objectives.”
Non-executive appointments to NHS Trusts made by the NHS TDA are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
Wyn Dignan has been appointed from 1 February 2015 until 31 January 2017 and is entitled to receive a remuneration of £35,000 per annum.
