Bedfordshire life savers recruitment event a ‘huge success’

A recruitment morning hosted by ambulance volunteers in the Bolnhurst area has been hailed as a success and cooked up plenty of ‘community spirit’.

The event, on Saturday (23^rd January) at Keysoe village hall, provided a variety of attractions including a raffle and a bake sale and was strongly supported by the community.

A cycling club from St Neots were also amongst visitors and were able to learn about the role of CFRs in their communities and also how they can get involved themselves.

Group co-ordinator Carol Howes was amazed by the popularity of the event: “It went really well and I also so please to see such a good turnout.”

All proceeds made from the bake sale and raffle will be put towards purchasing resources and equipment for the CFR group.

The aim of a CFR is to reach a potential life threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives on scene. They are trained in basic life support which allows them to attend medical emergencies such as cardiac arrests in their communities.

Community partnership training officer for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Simon Marshall also attended and added: “There was an abundance of community spirit amongst the visitors and the CRFs, and the cakes were awesome too.”
