REGISTER NOW FOR AEROMEDICAL CONFERENCE 2023: EXTRICATION
Friday, 28 April, 2023
Registration is now open for the annual Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Aeromedical Conference, which will be taking place at Ford Dunton Technical Centre in Laindon, near Basildon on Wednesday 7th June 2023.
The FREE to attend event is specifically aimed at medics, students, emergency and military personnel, who are interested in the pre-hospital environment.
This year’s Aeromedical Conference is themed ‘Extrication’ and will focus on a multiagency approach to the rescue, treatment and extrication of patients trapped in vehicles. Road traffic collisions are still a leading cause of death and injury on the UK road network. Each death or serious injury on the road is a preventable tragedy, yet an average of five people die every day with a further 84 seriously injured.
Many patients involved in a collision will remain trapped in their vehicle, and extrication is the process by which injured, or potentially injured, people are removed from their vehicle by rescue services. Current extrication and rescue techniques were developed with a focus on an absolute minimisation of movement of a patient’s spine; these techniques can take a significant amount of time, therefore delaying potential lifesaving interventions.
Aeromed 2023 will highlight the new scientific and medicine-based evidence that is challenging current guidance and offering alternative practice to both clinicians and rescuers.
Speakers include experts in new extrication techniques, such as the vehicle relocation method, and how first responders or clinicians can care for patients in the wreckage.
Presentations will cover the challenges facing rescuers, and how to ensure safety of both patients and responders, as well as an evidence-based review of the multi-agency approach to trapped patients, teamwork, communication, planning and care in the car. Other presentations include an insight into the work of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, and the role of the Police Family Liaison Officer in supporting families of victims of crime, road fatality, mass disaster or other critical incidents.
There will also be clinical case studies with a focus on the conference theme that will undoubtably offer shared learning for all attending.
The event is supported by Ford, Philips, and Leonardo Helicopters, as headline sponsors, and a sealed lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day. There will also be an exhibition area where delegates will be able to network with organisations who support the air ambulance and emergency services.
The Aeromedical Conference is free to delegates, but new for this year is an opportunity to join the EHAAT team at the private post conference evening function being held at Stifford Hall Hotel, Thurrock, for the price of £34 per person.
Jane Gurney is CEO at Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and said: “Our annual Aeromedical Conference has firmly established itself as a must attend event for those directly involved in providing clinical life-saving services in the pre-hospital environment. Tickets are limited and I would urge those that are interested to go online and register as soon as possible.”
