MBE presented to University of Greenwich Research Student

Jacqueline McKenna

A University of Greenwich research student has been presented with the MBE by Prince Charles.

Jacqueline McKenna, who is Director of Nursing at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, is studying part-time for her PhD in Nursing and has just completed the first year of her studies with the University's School of Health and Social Care. She received the MBE for Services to Health and Nursing.-

Jacqueline says: "Prince Charles was lovely, really easy to talk to. We only spoke briefly but I was able to tell him how working with the local Universities has been a big help to the Medway hospital, especially in terms of boosting recruitment numbers for nursing as a career. It's important to have these professional relationships.

"I don't know who nominated me - the first I knew was when I received a letter from the Cabinet Office about a month before it was announced. I was just shocked. The day at Buckingham Palace was amazing - it was so well organised. They'd said it would take one hour and 20 minutes and it was dead on. There were about 100 people being presented with awards, including two knighthoods. The staff were really nice and made us all feel very comfortable."
